Are You on Track With Your 2026 Taxes?
A quick quarterly check can help you spot a potential tax shortfall before filing season. Compare what you may need to prepay with what you have already paid through withholding and estimated tax payments.
A Fast Check Before a Tax Surprise.
You do not need to prepare an entire tax return to identify whether your current prepayments deserve a closer look.
Last Year’s Tax
Start with the total tax from your 2025 federal return. This is used for the prior-year safe-harbor comparison.
This Year’s Projection
Enter your best estimate of total 2026 federal tax. The tool compares 90% of that projection with the applicable prior-year amount.
What You’ve Already Paid
Add expected 2026 federal withholding and estimated-tax payments so the checkup can show the remaining amount toward the selected safe-harbor target.
Run Your Quarterly Tax Check.
This is a screening tool—not a tax-return calculation. Enter your current estimates below.
2026 Federal Estimated-Tax Safe-Harbor Check
Use federal amounts only. The tool calculates the smaller of 90% of your projected 2026 total tax or the applicable percentage of your 2025 total tax, then compares that target with your expected federal withholding and estimated payments.
Federal Taxes Are Pay-As-You-Go.
For most calendar-year individual taxpayers, estimated-tax installments generally follow these four payment periods.
Quarterly does not always mean four equal payments.
If income arrives unevenly during the year—for example, a large business profit, bonus, stock sale, or other event—the timing rules can matter. A personalized projection can evaluate the actual facts instead of simply dividing an annual number by four.
Your Tax Picture Can Change Fast.
The checkup is most useful as an early-warning system. A full projection becomes more valuable when something important changes during the year.
- Business profit is substantially higher or lower than expected
- You started or changed an S-Corporation salary
- You sold investments, real estate, or another major asset
- Withholding changed during the year
- You added significant retirement-plan or HSA contributions
- You received a bonus, K-1, 1099 income, or other income without withholding
